The academy is founded by a distinguished vocalist of contemporary music world. National Awardee Amjad Ali Khan, to impart education in music adhering to the gharana tradition and mentor the budding talent to become the icons of tomorrow.
Mr. Khan is the direct descendant of the family of the great Ustad Abdul Karim Khan and the much legendary Sartaj-e-Mousiqui, Ustad Abdul Wahid Khan who were the founders of Kirana Gharana.
Born as first son of Ustad Akhtar Nawaz Khan, a veteran vocalist of Kirana Gharana and a dignified teacher, Mr. Khan started imbibing music from the onset of his life. At the age of six, he started taalim in music from his maternal uncles Ustad Mashkoor Ali Khan (recipient of Sangeet Natak Akademi Fellowship) and Ustad Mubarak Ali Khan, who are sons and disciples of sarangi-nawaz Padamshree Ustad Shakoor Khan.
After rigorous training under the able guidance of his father and maternal uncles, Mr. Khan gave his first performance on a prestigious stage when he was 11 in an event commemorating Ustad Shakoor Khan in Kolkatta. Since then, he has performed in numerous prestigious festivals in India and abroad. Some of them are Sawai Gandharva Bhimsen Mahotsav, Ganga Mahotsav, Samrath Music Festival – Goa, Gunijan Sabha – Delhi, Arpan and Shopan Music Festivals – Delhi, Mangubai Music Festival and Tihai Music Festival – Goa , Kala shree Mahotsav – pune, Hari Vallabh Music Festival – Jalandhar, Acharya Bhaat Khande Sangeet Samaroh – Latoor, Yuva Pratibhotsav – Goa, Delhi Youth Festival , and many more.
His overseas performances include China Asian Festival, Namaste India in Japan, Vienna Music Festival, and live concerts in countries like Switzerland, Greece, Germany, Spain, Dubai, London, Moscow, Dubai, etc.
Besides being a connoisseur in Hindustani classical vocal, he is much-admired for singing the light classical forms such as ghazals, tumri, chaiti, dadra and bhajan with equal adeptness.
He is an “A” grade artist at All India Radio and Doordarshan Delhi. He has also done playback singing in several T.V. serials like Shareek-e-Ghalib Telefilms, Ahsaas Parampara, Krishan Murli, etc, and has appeared in various T.V. shows. He spoke on Guru-Shishya Parampara in a special show on Guru Poornima on Mahua Plus T.V. channel. He has also been interviewed by Haryana News channel on Hindustani classical music and his career.
He is the recipient of numerous titles and coveted awards, such as, Bharat Ratna Pandit Bhimsen Joshi National Award, Rotary Club’s Vocational Award, Surmani, Jhankar Music Award, Suron Ke Silsile Award, Best Vocal Award, Hari Vallabh, and Kaka Saheb Gardgill Music Award.
He has received scholarship from Sahitya Kala Parishad and the Young and Talented Artist scholarship from Government of India, Department of Culture. He is also empanelled as an “Established” artist in ICCR (Indian Council for Cultural Relations).
He is highly regarded for his ingenious works in music. He has been invited by various organizations and shows for judging; such as Indian Idol Junior 2015 auditions, the drive “Haryana Ek Khoj” by Spic Macay, National School of Drama, Shree Ram Centre, etc. He has also been giving workshops on the subject for last 15 years for various organizations, like Sahitya Kala Parishad, Shree Ram Centre, Spic Macay, Routes 2 Roots, etc.
His zeal to excel in music and humanitarian beliefs go hand in hand. He imparts free education in music to the underprivileged children. He has an ardent desire to provide a platform to those who deserve even if they cannot afford, and in this way, serve the creation of Almighty.
